Reflection: Practice Listening
Today's reflection is take from the Ignatian Reflection by Mike Manalastas, S.J. as found on
"In today’s Gospel, we find Jesus’ mother and brothers standing outside wanting to speak to Jesus, rather than inside listening to what he had to say. Too often we may find ourselves like Jesus’ family members on the outside wanting to talk when we should be on the inside listening. According to St. Ignatius, listening is key to an enriching spiritual life. We can start this first by listening attentively to others (rather than thinking about what we’re going to say next), to the sounds of nature, and even to the sound of silence. By practicing listening, slowly, we can then tune in to the voice of God in the quiet of our hearts. And only in the quiet of our hearts can we then discover the will of the Father, have the courage to do it, and thus be called brothers and sisters of Jesus."
